Accentuating the ‘American’ in their speech (Los Angeles Times)

Courses to help immigrants improve their English communication skills and overcome social isolation are popular. But skeptics say losing speech patterns requires interaction with native speakers. Sitting across from his teacher, Edgar Martinez repeated the word he couldn’t quite pronounce: “situation.”
