Arkansas persimmon tree

Spotted growing wild by the side of the road while out walking with my dad. My mom said she tried one a couple weeks ago, and that it was quite tasty.

American persimmons (Diospyros virginiana) are native to the eastern U.S., from Connecticut to Florida. Fruits may ripen anytime from September to November, and are supposed to be especially flavorful after a frost. Persimmons are too soft to be transported commercially, so plant your own in order to enjoy their sweet fruit. Trees may reach 70′ or more, but only reach 15′ in their first 10 years. Wildlife and livestock enjoy the fallen fruit, though unripe fruit is toxic. More info.
