Tribute to the Aetas

Tribute to the Aetas

Many considered the Aetas as the first true Filipinos. They crossed land bridges around 6000 years ago to get to the Philippines. The remaining part of the land bridge is now the island of Palawan.

Aetas today are concentrated near Mt. Pinatubo in Pampanga. They have lived there for more than 1000 years now.

During the time when the US still had their air and naval bases in Clark and Subic, the Aetas were employed to train US Navy Seals and Special Forces in jungle survival. In fact, a large of percentage of Vietnam veterans underwent this sort of training with the Aetas.

In this photo, an Aeta elder demonstrates how one can prepare/cook a meal using bamboos. All you need is a jungle bolo and the forest will provide the rest :).
